Hokies win exhibition contest over Blue Jays
Underclassmen lead Tech offense in victory

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomores Carson Helms and Brendon Hayden each had two hits and freshman Logan Bible scored twice as Virginia Tech defeated the Ontario Blue Jays, 7-2, in an exhibition game at English Field on Friday night.

Freshmen or sophomores accounted for seven of the 10 hits, six of the seven runs and five of the six RBI to lead the Hokie attack with freshman Ryan Burns scoring a run and driving in another, sophomore Mark Zagunis hitting a solo home run, sophomore Kyle Wernicki, Bible and Helms also plating runs, and sophomore Sean Keselica and Hayden each scoring once. Juniors Chad Pinder (one run scored) and Chad Morgan (an RBI) rounded out the Tech scoring output.

On the mound, juniors Eddie Campbell (2.0IP/0ER/1K), Colin O'Keefe (1.0IP/0ER/2K), Brad Markey (2.0IP/0ER/1K) and Devin Burke (2.0IP/0ER/1K) combined with Hayden (1.0IP/1ER/1K) and Keselica (1.0IP/0ER/1K) to limit the Blue Jays to just one earned run on eight hits.
