BLACKSBURG, Va. – Off to its best start in 20 years, Virginia Tech wasted no time in dispatching visiting Wagner on Wednesday night at English Field, scoring multiple runs in each of the first four innings to cruise to a 14-2 victory.

With their victory, the Hokies are now 14-4 overall and have won eight straight non-conference games, trailing only the 1993 squad in wins after 18 games (15-3). Wagner fell to 3-11 with the loss.

Five straight hits started the game with Tyler Horan, Jake Atwell and Andrew Rash all plating runs in the first frame. Horan, Chad Pinder and Atwell each registered RBI in the second inning as Tech rolled out to a 7-0 lead.

That was plenty of help the pitchers would need as Colin O'Keefe improved to 2-0 on the season with a five-inning, two-hit, one-run six-strikeout effort. Tanner McIntyre pitched two scoreless frames with four strikeouts, Devin Burke saw his first time on the mound as a Hokie with one frame and one earned run, and Jake Joyce finished the game with a pair of strikeouts.

Offensively, 13 Hokies came to the plate and seven had at least two hits led by Pinder’s four-hit night which included a pair of doubles, giving the third basemen 13 for the season, which is among the nation’s leaders.

Atwell had three hits, while Mark Zagunis, Horan, Kyle Wernicki, Carson Helms, and Alex Perez each had two. Horan and Perez scored a team-high three runs, while Atwell and Pinder each drove in three.

The Hokies will use Thursday as a travel day, as they head down to Atlanta, Ga. for their second ACC series of the year, taking on Georgia Tech this weekend.
