Morales, Pinder power Hokies past Radford
The duo drives in four each and both hit three-run home runs

RADFORD, Va. – With its 13-5 victory at Radford Tuesday night – powered by a pair of three-run home runs by Johnny Morales and Chad Pinder – Virginia Tech won its fifth straight game overall and its 13th straight non-conference contest.

Seven different Hokies notched multi-hit games led by Morales and Pinder with three each and they were joined by Mark Zagunis and Gabe Ortiz. With two hits each was Tyler Horan, Ronnie Shaban and Brendon Hayden. Morales and Pinder each knocked in four runs, while Morales crossed the plate three times, and Zagunis, Horan, Pinder and Ortiz each came home twice.

Radford (17-15) actually jumped on top 2-0 in the home half of the third as the Hokies committed a couple of errors in the frame. Tech starter Colin O'Keefe, who struck out five in his three innings of work, allowed two hits and two runs, one earned, in the third.

The Hokies responded with a single run in the fourth, and then their offense got going by throwing up six runs on the board in the fifth and three each in the six and seventh frames. He key hit in the sixth was Morales’ home run, while Pinder hit his home run with two outs in the sixth. Shaban had the key hit in the seventh, a two-out two-RBI single, his 225th hit in a Hokie uniform.

Patrick Scoggin tossed the middle three frames for Tech, allowing seven hits and three runs, while striking out four to earn the win on the mound. Devin Burke (2.0 IP) struck out two and Ricky Hodges (1.0 IP) closed out the game and struck out one.

Tech (23-12) will take a couple days off before getting back into ACC action. They Hokies will face No. 6 Miami this weekend at English Field with the first game set for Friday at 5:30 p.m.
