LEXINGTON, Va. - In the 175th meeting between the two schools, Virginia Tech got a couple of late-inning clutch hits from Andrew Rash to register a 9-6 come-back win at VMI in non-conference action at Gray-Minor Stadium Tuesday night.

Trailing 4-3 entering the sixth, Rash stepped to the plate with two outs and runners on the corners and delivered a bases-clearing double to put Tech ahead 5-4. Scoring on the play was Sean Keselica, who also doubled, and Mark Zagunis, who was hit by a pitch to reach base.

VMI (18-26) knotted the score at 5-5 in the home half of the sixth by scoring an unearned run off of Hokie reliever Jake Joyce. Matt Winn singled home Cody Holder, who reached via an error, for his third RBI of the night.

It was Rash again, this time in the eighth with runners on first and second with one out, who delivered the go ahead run. He tripled to bring home Tyler Horan and Zagunis, who scored his third run of the evening, and then Rash scored on the very next pitch, as it was wild, and gave Tech an 8-5 lead.

Joyce (6-1) worked a career-high 4.2 innings of relief to earn the victory and Brendon Hayden threw the final two frames, allowing one run, to pick up his first career save. Campbell Henkel (1-5) suffered the loss for VMI.

The Hokies got on the board first with Zagunis hitting a three-run home run in the top of the first, before they saw the Keydets respond with two in both the first and second frames.

Keselica and Horan each had three hits and two runs scored in the game, while Gary Schneider had two hits and scored the final run of the game on a passed ball in the ninth.

Tech (25-17) returns home for its next series, welcoming its third straight top five opponent to English Field. No. 5 Virginia comes to Blacksburg this weekend for a three-game ACC series that starts on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
