ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech could not take advantage of some early scoring opportunities and Georgia Tech made the most of its as the Yellow Jackets registered a 12-3 victory over the Hokies on Friday night at Russ Chandler Stadium in the first game of each team's second week of ACC action.

With the win, No. 14 Georgia Tech improved to 13-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference and gave its head coach Danny Hall his 1,000^th career victory. The loss drops the Hokies to 14-5, 1-3 in ACC play.

Trailing 1-0 after one, Virginia Tech tied the game in the second with an RBI triple from Tyler Horan, scoring Ronnie Shaban, who led off the frame with a single. However, over the next two innings, the Hokies would strand two in the third and left the bases loaded in the fourth to keep pace with the Yellow Jackets.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech answered in the bottom of the second with four runs and blew the game open with five in the bottom of the fifth, taking a 11-1 advantage.

Brendon Hayden knocked in Tech’s second run of the game, plating Mark Zagunis with a single in the seventh and Chad Pinder hit his second home run of the year in the ninth to provide the final run for the Hokies.

Buck Farmer (4-1) went seven innings for the Yellow Jackets, allowing six hits and two runs and striking out seven, while Alex Cruz threw the final two frames. Manny Martir (0-1) pitched four frames and was charged with nine runs, with Clark Labitan tossing one inning with one earned run and Tanner McIntyre closing out the game for the Hokies – three innings pitched, one run, two strikeouts.

The two teams will be back in action again on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
