BLACSBURG, Va. - The women’s 4x800 meter team consisting of Katarina Smiljanec, Frances Dowd, Amanda Smith and Hanna Green shattered the previous Virginia Tech record set in 2002 and the Rector Field House record set in 2011 on their way to a first-place finish on the final day of the Doc Hale VT Elite Meet held in Rector Field House on Saturday afternoon.
Smiljanec, Dowd, Smith and Green finished the women’s 4x800-meter race with a time of 8:33.50, shattering the previous record set in 2002 by Morris, Alverson, Friedman and Vidt. The previous record was set with a time of 9:01.69.
In the women’s 3000-meter race, Courtney Dobbs ran a personal best of 9:33.96 en route to a first place finish. Madalyn Nuckols finished fifth overall crossing the finish line at 9:56.91, also setting a personal best.
In the women’s pole vault, Martina Schultze hit her best mark this season at 14’01.75” (4.31m) finishing fourth overall.
Jasmine Mitchell posted a sixth-place finish in the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 56.10.
In the men’s 4x800 meter race, the team consisting of Kevin DeWillie, Martin Dally, Tihut Degfae and Grant Pollock set a new Rector Field House record with a time of 7:24.48.
The Hokies picked up another win in the men’s 4x400-meter race. The team of Tadashi Pinder, Alexander Merrit, Taylor Purdue and Marcus Finney posted a time of 3:16.79.
Thomas Curtin picked up a win in the men’s 3000-meter race with a time of 8:19.29.
Tadashi Pinder finished sixth in the men’s 200-meter race posting a time of 21.75, his personal best at the distance.
In the men’s pole vault, Torben Laidig, Chris Uhle and Stephan Munz all posted a mark of 17’01.75” (5.23m) for fourth, fifth and sixth place finishes, respectively.
The Hokies will continue their season next weekend when they travel to the Iowa State Classic.
