BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams hosted their final home meet of the season, the Hokie Open, today at the Tech Cross Country Course. Freshman Brayden Burleigh won the men’s race for Tech while sophomore Stephanie Cario finished first for the Hokies in the women’s race. Georgia Southern’s women joined the Hokies at the meet which was not scored.

Both the men (six kilometers) and women (three miles, 4.8 kilometers) raced distances shorter than the traditional college lengths of eight kilometers and six kilometers, respectively.

Burleigh crossed the line first for Virginia Tech in the men’s race, winning by 33 seconds in a time of 18:26.15. Sophomore Grant Pollock was second overall (18:59.44) and was followed by junior Joseph Murray (third, 19:03.47) and senior Chris Walizer (fourth, 19:12.95).

Competing unattached in the men’s race were freshmen Ryan Kuhns (fifth, 19:13.87), Zach Link (seventh, 19:23.82), Pat Woodford (eighth, 19:37.98) and George Carter (10th, 19:41.56).

Cario finished the three mile course in a time of 18:10.23 to take the women’s race. Senior Lauren Pinkston followed in second in 18:20.53. Freshman Ginny Jones was fourth in 18:48.57, redshirt sophomore Frances Dowd was sixth in 18:58.97 and freshman Camille Bouvet rounded out Tech’s top-five in seventh (19:07.50).

Today’s meet was the Hokies final tune-up prior to the NCAA Southeast Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 12 in Louisville, Ky.
