WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech baseball team split a doubleheader at Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Gene Hooks Field, taking the first game 12-7, but fell in the nightcap, 14-5.

In the first game, Phil Sciretta and Miguel Ceballos combined to knock in seven runs, as each set a new career high in RBIs. Sciretta had a two-RBI double in the fifth and notch single RBIs in the sixth and seventh, while Ceballos also had an RBI in the sixth and seventh and had the Hokies’ final RBI with a double in the ninth.

Sean Keselica won his first game of the season and is now 1-1 as he benefitting from the Hokies’ offensive outburst – they scored runs in six straight frames. He went six innings, allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out four.

Mac Caples and Erik Payne each hit solo home runs in the contest. Payne scored at team-high four runs, while Saige Jenco, Alex Perez, Brendon Hayden and Caples each came across the plate twice.

In the second game, Hayden got the game started with a three-run home run – his fourth long ball of the season – which scored Perez and Payne – but Wake would respond by scoring 14 runs opposed to the Hokies one between the third through seventh frames.

Perez would hit an RBI single in the fourth scoring Joe Freiday, Jr. and Payne knocked in Jenco in the ninth to end the scoring for the Tech.

Aaron McGarity suffered the loss on the mound in Game 2, dropping to 1-1.

Wake Forest (10-5, 1-1 ACC) starting pitcher Matt Pirro improved to 4-0 with the win in the second game. The Demon Deacons hit a pair of three-run home runs and a grand slam to pace the scoring in game two.

Tech (7-7, 1-1 ACC) will look to win the league series against Wake Forest when the teams play the rubber match on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start time.
