BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech baseball welcomes 14 newcomers to its team for the upcoming baseball season, a squad that will look to make a return trip to the ACC and NCAAs after just missing out a year ago.

The class is pitcher heavy with nine of the newcomers seeing time on the mound at their previous schools. The class includes 13 freshmen – six are from the state of Virginia, the others are from across the country – and one junior-college transfer.

“Our incoming recruiting class speaks volumes to the product our assistant coaches have been tirelessly selling,” Head Coach Pete Hughes said. “The Virginia Tech brand has allowed us to keep top talent home and in state. It has also allowed us to recruit from coast-to-coast and everywhere in between.

“We are fortunate to be able to recruit student-athletes backed by a school with a national academic reputation, a conference with the highest level of college baseball competition, a program with first-class facilites and a college community that is the greatest in the country. It is through our university and the efforts of Patrick Mason and Mike Kunigonis that we were able to have assembled such a talented incoming class.”

The Hokies’ fall season will start in early September with more information being released at a later date.

Kyle Bynum is a freshman outfielder from Portsmouth, Va.

Luis Collazo is a left-handed freshman pitcher from Miami, Fla.

Rahiem Cooper is a freshman infielder from Gordonsville, Va.

Matt Dauby is a freshman infielder from Carmel, Ind.

Saige Jenco is a freshman outfielder from State College, Pa.

Tim Kelly is a right-handed freshman pitcher and outfielder from Hampton, Va.

Sean Kennedy is a left-handed freshman pitcher from Fredericksburg, Va.

Tyler Knight is a right-handed freshman pitcher from Carmel, Ca.

Brad Markey, the only junior-transfer, is a right-handed pitcher from Bel Air, Md.

Andrew Mogg is a freshman catcher from Windmere, Fla.

Josh Moore is a right-handed freshman pitcher from Newport News, Va.

Kit Scheetz is a left-handed freshman pitcher from Midlothian, Va.

Phil Sciretta is a left-handed freshman pitcher from Duxbury, Mass.

Matt Tulley is a right-handed freshman pitcher from Lowell, Mass.
