KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The women’s distance medley relay team set a new school record and two other Tech relay teams took the top spots in their respective races to pace the Hokies on the final day of the Tennessee Relays Powered by Sea Ray.
The women’s distance medley relay team consisting of Shannon Morton, Hanna Green, Paige Kvartunas and Katarina Smiljanec set a new school record crossing the line at 11:23.09, earning a first-place finish. They surpassed the mark of 11:30.01 set by Fanning, Ferrence, Sherbak and Clark back in 2007.
In the same race, the team of Katie Kennedy, Amanda Smith, Shalonda Mitchell and Sarah Rapp finished in third with a time of 11:32.25.
The Hokies took the top two spots in the men’s distance medley relay with the team of Kevin Cianfarini, Chester Hebden, Prince Owusu and Darren Barlow earning a first-place finish with a time of 9:56.30. Less than two seconds behind them in second place was the team of Ashkan Mohammadi, Martin Dally, Bret Freed and Stuart Robertson with a time of 9:58.15.
The men’s 4x800-meter relay team posted a first-place finish after Patrick Joseph, Neil Gourley, Daniel Jaskowak and Kevin DeWillie finished with a time of 7:33.58.
In the invitational section of the men’s pole vault, Chris Uhle posted a third place finish with an outdoor personal best mark of 17’09” (5.41m). Jared Allison finished in 11th hitting a height of 16’09.25” (5.11m).
The Hokies will be back in action next weekend at the University of Virginia.
