Green grabs school record in 800
Hokies close out Marshall Invitational and Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa – Hanna Green set a new school record in the women’s 800-meter race to pace the Hokies on the final day of the Iowa State Classic.

Green Finished in fifth place with a time of 2:04.80 besting the previous school record set by former Hokie Frances Dowd. Amanda Smith finished just behind her with a time of 2:05.80. Katarina Smiljanec finished in 14th place with a time of 2:09.86.

Paige Kvartunas moved into second place in the Virginia Tech Record Book after finishing in sixth place with a time of 9:14.33. If no one ran faster in the ACC this weekend, Kvartunas will be atop of the ACC in that event.

In a field of 53 runners, Grant Pollock posted a 10th-place finish in the men’s 800 with a time of 1:50.04. Prince Owusu was behind him in 14th place with a time of 1:51.23. Kevin DeWillie finished in 19th with a time of 1:52.02.

In the men’s 3000, Daniel Jaskowak finished in 15th place with a time of 8:08.49.

Tech will be back in action next weekend when the squads host the Virginia Tech Challenge.

HUNTINGTON, W.V. – The Hokies saw several quality performances to close out the final day of the Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University.

Johnna Dominick posted a win in the women’s high jump after setting a personal best. Dominick hit a height of 5’08.75” (1.75m), besting the nearest competitor by over five inches.

Nora McKiver, Shanel Burr and Christine London finished in first, second and fourth place in the women's 60-meter hurdles. McKiver used 8.63 seconds for her first-place finish beating Burr by just two-hundredths of a second who crossed the line at 8.65 seconds. London finished in 8.78 seconds.

McKiver earned a fourth-place finish in the women’s 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line at 7.73 seconds. Courtney Blanden finished in fifth place with a time of 7.80 seconds.

Shalonda Mitchell finished in first place in the women’s 800-meter race. Mitchell crossed the finish line in a time of 2:13.81.

Blanden posted her second top-10 finish of the day after finishing in fifth in the women’s 200-meter dash. Blanden finished in 25.29 seconds while Shanel Burr posted a seventh-place finish with a time of 25.76 seconds.

In the men’s 60-meter hurdles, Aaron Simpson finished in second place overall with a time of 8.43 seconds. Alexander Merritt posted a fourth-place finish of 8.88 seconds while Austin Kolko finished in sixth with a time of 9.06 seconds.

Demitri Knowles, J.C. Coleman and Dante Price posted a one-two-three finish in the men’s 60-meter dash. Knowles won the race with a time of 6.94 seconds. J.C. Coleman was just behind him with a time of 6.98 seconds while Dante Price finished in third with a time of 7.00 seconds.

Chet Hebden finished in fourth place in the men’s 400-meter race running sub-50 with a time of 49.25 seconds. Alex Merritt finished in fourth with a time of 50.77 seconds.

Grifffin Carmichael and Bret Freed finished one and two in the men’s 800-meter race. Carmichael crossed the finish line at 1:53.25 while Freed finished in 1:54.39. Ashkan Mohammadi finished in fifth place with a time of 1:55.09 while Martin Dally closed out the Hokies’ top-10 finishers with a time 1:57.15 for a sixth-place finish.

Price won the men’s 200-meter dash with a time of 22.23 seconds. Hebden finished just behind in fourth place with a time of 22.68 seconds. Austin Kolko finished in eighth with a time of 23.28 seconds.

Daniel Rau was the top collegiate finisher in the men’s 3000 posting a time of 8:40.65 seconds.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Merritt, Kolko, Freed and Mohammadi won the race with a time of 3:17.66. In fourth place, Dally, Hebden, Carmichael and Price crossed the finish line with a time of 3:29.47.

Tech will be back in action next weekend when the squads host the Virginia Tech Challenge.
