BLACKSBURG - In its final nonconference game of the year at English Field, Virginia Tech dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting William & Mary as Phil Sciretta knocked in the Hokies' lone run.

The Tribe (31-18) got all the runs they needed in the second frame as Nick Thompson delivered with a two-out, two-run bases loaded single to plate both Derek Lowe and Josh Smith. They added two insurance runs in the fifth on a solo home run by Charley Gould and a two-out RBI double from Smith that scored Kevin Casey.

Tech (20-29-1) scratched across its only run of the game in the eighth - despite having the bases loaded with one out in both the second and third innings. Mark Zagunis hit a leadoff single and with one out, Sean Keselica double to right field. Sciretta then grounded to second to bring in Zagunis.

Joseph Gaouette worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his fourth save, while Nick Brown improved to 4-1 with the victory. Aaron McGarity suffered the loss and is now 0-5.

Luke Scherzer threw a scoreless sixth and Tanner McIntyre worked the final three frames scoreless, allowing one infield single and striking out four, to keep the Tribe off the board over the final four innings.

Brendon Hayden and Sciretta each had a pair of hits for the Hokies, while Kevin Nutter, Thompson and Smith had two hits each for William & Mary.

Tech will take Wednesday off before hosting its final ACC series of the season starting on Thursday. NC State comes to Blacksburg for three games with a 5:30 first pitch slated for game one.
