BLACKSBURG - In the first inning, Phil Sciretta knocked in two runs on a bases-loaded two-out single. However, No. 24 Miami scored four runs over the second and third frames then put the game away with five in the ninth to defeat the Hokies, 9-2, on Sunday afternoon at English Field in the final game of the three-game ACC series.
Miami (21-12, 11-4 ACC) saw three players - Zack Collins, Alex Hernandez and Brandon Lopez - each knock in a pair of runs in the win, while Bryan Radziewski tossed seven frames - the last six scoreless - and struck out seven to improve to 2-2 on the mound this season.
The Hokies (14-15-1, 5-10 ACC) had three players with a multi-hit game led by Saige Jenco. A day after seeing his 12-game hit streak snapped, Jenco had a three-hit afternoon, while Sean Keselica and Sciretta each had two.
Tech was hurt by errors once again, as the Hurricanes' three runs scored in the third frame - which saw them take a 4-2 lead - were all unearned. Jon Woodcock suffered the loss for the Hokies and is 0-1 this year.
Of note, today's start by Alex Perez was the 147th straight in his career, the longest since Michael Seaborn, who had a streak of 146 straight from March 24, 2009 to May 21, 2011 (his final game for Tech). Next on the list is Sean O'Brien's string of 162 straight games - the final three years of his career at Tech (2006-08).
The Hokies will return to action this week when they travel to Richmond to take on VCU on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. They will be back home when they host Longwood at English Field with a 7 p.m. start.
