BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech will open the 2016 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 p.m. when the Hokies face Boston College at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

THE HOKIES (17-12, 5-11 ACC)
Virginia Tech defeated rival Virginia 60-55 on Sunday afternoon, completing the regular season sweep and marking the first time the Hokies have defeated the Cavaliers twice in the same season. Chanette Hicks led the Hokies with a career-high 19 points while grabbing eight rebounds and handing out four assists. Taijah Campbell added a season-best 14 points and tallied six boards.

Trailing 46-36 with 9:43 left in the fourth quarter, the Hokies would retake the lead on a 16-0 run that spanned four minutes. Campbell and Hicks combined for 11 of the 16 points during the run as Tech went up 52-46 with 5:10 left. The Cavaliers responded with a 7-0 run to go up 53-52 with 1:48 remaining but Hicks converted a layup and a free throw for a 55-53 Tech lead. UVA tied it on a layup with 1:04 left, but that was the last basket for the Cavaliers. Three made free throws from Hicks and two more from Regan Magarity clinched the victory for the Hokies.

Hannah Young and Sidney Cook lead the Hokies, averaging 10.4 points per game. Cook’s average in conference play is 11.7 ppg. Vanessa Panousis is adding 9.2 ppg while Hicks is tallying 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game. Campbell and Cook lead on the boards with 5.5 rpg.

THE EAGLES (14-15, 2-14 ACC)
Boston College dropped a 70-58 decision at Notre Dame on Saturday. Kelly Hughes had 16 points for BC while Martina Mosetti and Mariella Fasoula added 10 each. Fasoula and Nicole Boudreau grabbed five rebounds and Boudreau tallied five assists.

The Eagles trailed 42-24 at the break and were down 55-33 after the first three quarters. Boston College outscored the Irish 23-15 in the final frame, but would get no closer than 14 in the final minutes.

Hughes leads Boston College, averaging 14.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Fasoula is adding 13.9 points and grabbing 5.4 rebounds per game. Mosetti is handing out 4.0 assists per game.

THE SERIES
This marks the 24th meeting between the two teams with the Hokies leading 12-11 after picking up a 58-33 win earlier this season.

Young dropped in 13 points in the game while Hicks added 11 points, four assists and three steals. Panousis tallied 10 points and Regan Magarity tallied seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Hughes led the Eagles with 11 points and Boudreau tallied six points and seven boards.

The two teams have met three times previously in the ACC Tournament with BC holding a 2-1 advantage in Greensboro. BC won the last time 62-49 on March 4, 2010. Former Tech player Nikki Davis had 10 points in the game.

The Hokies last win over the Eagles in Greensboro was March 1, 2007 when Tech picked up a 60-54 OT victory. Current Virginia Tech assistant coach Britney Anderson started in that game.
