Hokies travel to Wake Forest for Thursday night tilt
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at LJVM

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will wrap up the regular season road slate on Thursday, Feb. 25 when the Hokies travel to Wake Forest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

THE HOKIES (15-12, 3-11 ACC)
Virginia Tech forced No. 18/17 Miami into overtime before falling 67-56 on Sunday evening in Coral Gables. Sidney Cook led the Hokies with 17 points including 14-of-15 from the line. Hannah Young chipped in 15 points. Chanette Hicks recorded nine points, including the falling-down jumper in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. Hicks also recorded four assists and three steals. Taijah Campbell notched 12 rebounds, six points and four blocks.

Tech trailed 27-24 coming out of the break, before the Hurricanes extended their lead to eight and were up 36-28 with 3:23 to go. The Hokies kept it close, closing out with a 7-2 run to cut it 38-35 heading into the final period. Miami again extended its lead, going up eight early in the fourth, but the Hokies chipped away by outscoring the ‘Canes 9-4 to close the Miami lead to one at 49-48 with 31 seconds left. Miami was up 50-48 with 10 seconds remaining. Hicks falling down jumper sent the game into overtime. The Hokies took an early three-point 55-52 advantage in the extra frame, but Miami used a 13-0 run that included going 10-of-16 from the line to claim the lead for good.

Young leads the Hokies, averaging 10.5 points per game while shooting a 39.2 percent clip from outside and pulling down 4.6 rebounds per game. Cook is posting 10.3 ppg overall and leads Tech in ACC play with 11.8 ppg. Vanessa Panousis is tallying 9.4 ppg and handing out 2.1 apg. Hicks is chipping in 8.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.3 apg and 2.9 spg. Regan Magarity leads on the boards with 5.6 rpg while Campbell has 5.3 rpg a 1.4 bpg.

THE DEMON DEACONS (15-12, 6-8 ACC)
Wake Forest fell to Notre Dame 86-52 the last time out. Ariel Stephenson had 17 points for the Demon Deacons while Elisa Penna dropped in 10 points and pulled down a team-best six rebounds.

Notre Dame connected on 55.2 percent from the field in the opening half, outscoring the Deacons 41-22 in the first half. The Irish used a 25-12 advantage in the third frame to push its lead to 66-34. Wake Forest kept the scoring closer in the final 10 minutes with the Irish holding a slight 20-18 advantage in the frame. The Irish finished the game having connected on 56.5 percent from the field

Amber Campbell leads Wake with 13.4 points per game. Stephenson is adding 12.7 ppg while Milan Quinn is tallying 10 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES
Wake holds a slight 12-11 advantage in the all-time series, but the Hokies have picked up wins in three of the last four meetings, including last season in Blacksburg, 76-59. Tech jumped out early in the game, outscoring the Demon Deacons 39-18 in the first half and never looked back.

Five players hit double-digits for the Hokies who were led by 16 from Panousis. Cook added 13 while Young, Campbell and Samantha Hill dropped in 12 each. Campbell also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Ataijah Taylor is the top returner for Wake, having scored eight points in the game.

Up Next: Virginia Tech wraps up the regular season, hosting Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. The Hokies will honor seniors: Young, Campbell and Dominique Powell as well as senior manager Daisia Payne.
