BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will host Duke on Thursday, Feb. 18 in a 7 p.m. game at Cassell Coliseum. It marks the Hokies' Student Appreciation Night and all Virginia Tech students are encouraged to attend and cheer on the Hokies. There will be free pizza as well as many other giveaways including t-shirts and rally towels.

THE HOKIES (15-10, 3-9 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell to Pittsburgh 59-48 the last time out. Sidney Cook led the Hokies with 17 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Young chipped in 11 points while Rachel Camp tallied seven.

Both teams came out slow to start the game with the Hokies holding a 27-20 lead at the break. Pittsburgh opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run and tied the game at 30-30 with 6:28 remaining in the frame. The Panthers eventually outscored the Hokies 21-10 to take a 41-37 advantage into the fourth. Tech cut the game in the fourth and trailed just 51-48 with 3:40 to go. The Panthers extended their lead to 53-48 off a jumper. Pitt was able to connect on six crucial free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Young leads the Hokies, averaging 10.1 points per game while shooting a 40.8 percent clip from outside and pulling down 4.7 rebounds per game. Cook is posting 9.6 ppg overall and leads Tech in ACC play with 10.5 ppg. Vanessa Panousis is tallying 9.4 ppg and handing out 2.2 apg. Chanette Hicks is chipping in 8.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.2 apg and 2.8 spg. Regan Magarity leads on the boards with 5.6 rpg.

THE BLUE DEVILS (17-10, 6-7 ACC)
Duke dropped a 64-58 decision at Wake Forest on Thursday night. Oderah Chidom dropped in 18 points for the Blue Devils. Angela Salvadores recorded 16 points while Rebecca Greenwell chipped in 11. Faith Suggs grabbed eight rebounds.

Wake Forest jumped out early on the Blue Devils, outscoring in the first half to take a 33-22 lead at the break. Duke responded, opening the third frame with a 16-2 run to go on top 38-35 with just over five minutes to go. Wake scored the final two points, tying the game 38-38 heading into the final period. The Demon Deacons pushed their lead to eight early in the fourth, Duke was able to close it to four several times in the final minutes, but Wake held on for the win.

Azura Stevens leads Duke with 19.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, but has missed the previous four games with a foot injury. Greenwell is adding 14.6 ppg and Chidom is notching 8.7 ppg and 6.0 rpg.

THE SERIES
This is the 26th meeting between Duke and Virginia Tech, with the Blue Devils holding a 23-2 advantage in the series. Duke won last season’s meeting January 15, 2015 65-40 in Durham, N.C.
Panousis had 14 points for the Hokies while Greenwell led the Blue Devils with 21. Stevens pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
