BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is back on the court Sunday, Feb. 14 in a 2 p.m. game when the Hokies host ACC foe Pittsburgh at Cassell Coliseum. Fans are encouraged to wear pink as Sunday's game marks the Hokies' annual Play4Kay event.

THE HOKIES (15-9, 3-8 ACC)
Virginia Tech rallied at North Carolina, but the Tar Heels held on for the 71-67 win the last time out. Hannah Young led the Hokies with 22 and eight rebounds. Vanessa Panousis added 14 points while Chanette Hicks had eight points, three rebounds, six assists and four steals.
The Hokies came out slow on the offensive side in the opening half as UNC had a 38-21 lead going into the break. Coming out of intermission, the Tar Heels pushed their lead to 19 and were up 15 with 7:26 to go in the third quarter. Tech went to work, scoring nine unanswered to cut it to a six-point game, but UNC closed the frame with a 14-3 run to go on top 17 heading into the final 10 minutes. Tech came out firing in the final frame, out scoring the Tar Heels 18-4 over a nine-minute span to cut it to 64-63 at the one minute mark. The teams traded baskets with the Hokies still trailing by one with 10 seconds remaining, but UNC drained free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.
Young leads the Hokies, averaging 10.1 points per game. Young is shooting a 42.1 percent clip from outside while pulling down 4.7 rebounds per game. Panousis is tallying 9.8 ppg and handing out 2.3 apg. Sidney Cook is posting 9.2 ppg overall and leads Tech in ACC play with 9.9 ppg. Hicks is chipping in 8.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.2 apg and 2.9 spg. Regan Magarity leads on the boards with 5.6 rpg.
THE PANTHERS (10-14, 2-9 ACC)
Pittsburgh fell to No. 12 Louisville 84-61 on Thursday night at home. Stasha Carey led the Panthers with 21 points while Breanna Wise tallied 13.
The Panthers trailed 40-29 at the break, but held a slight scoring advantage in the third to cut it to a nine-point game heading into the final frame. The Panthers were able to get it to within seven points early in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals used an 18-4 run to put the game out of reach.
Wise leads the Panthers with 10.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. Carey is adding 9.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg. Aysia Bugg is recording 3.75 apg.
THE SERIES
This is just the 11th meeting between the two teams, with the Hokies holding a 7-3 advantage in the series. Virginia Tech won the last meeting, defeating Pitt 51-45 last season in the second round of the ACC Tournament.
Panousis led the Hokies with 20 points. Cook recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Young added seven points and six boards. Carey is the top returner for the Panthers, recording 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Tech also picked up the win the last time the two teams met in Cassell, defeating Pitt 69-62 in 2014. Panousis had 21 points in that game while Taijah Campbell led on the boards with 11. Former Pitt player Brianna Kiesel tallied 23 points in the game.
