BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is on the road to face rival Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 7 in a 2 p.m. game at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia.

THE HOKIES (14-8, 2-7 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell to Georgia Tech 51-34 the last time out. Sidney Cook led the Hokies with 9 points. Vanessa Panousis tallied eight points while Taijah Campbell grabbed eight rebounds.
The Hokies and Yellow Jackets were tied at 20-20 at the break, after Hannah Young drained a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the opening half. Georgia Tech came out of the break with a 15-4 run to push the lead to 11. Virginia Tech was able to get it down to an eight-point game in the fourth quarter, but was unable to get a run going as the Yellow Jackets responded with a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach.
Panousis leads the Hokies with 10.0 points per game along with handing out 2.23 assists per game. Young is adding 9.3 ppg and shooting a 42.1 percent clip from outside while pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game. Cook is posting 8.8 ppg and 4.9 rpg, while Chanette Hicks is adding 8.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.95 apg and 2.86 spg. Regan Magarity leads on the boards with 5.5 rpg and chipping in 8.1 ppg.
THE CAVALIERS (13-10, 3-6 ACC)
Virginia dropped a 67-52 decision at Duke on Thursday night. Mikayla Venson had 22 points for the Cavaliers while J’Kyra Brown and Breyana Mason added 11 points each. Sydney Umeri led on the boards with seven rebounds.
Duke got out to the early lead after outscoring UVA 20-12 in the opening period. The Blue Devils pushed their lead with a 23-14 advantage in the second frame to take a 43-26 lead into the break. Virginia held the slight scoring advantage in the third and was able to make it a 12-point game late in the period, but that is as close as the Cavaliers would get the rest of the way.
Venson leads the Cavaliers with 15.4 points per game. Mason is adding 10.1 ppg while Lauren Moses in notching 10.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
THE SERIES
The series against UVA marks one of the oldest in program history with the two teams meeting every season except one (1991-92) since 1976. Virginia holds the 45-8 advantage in the all-time series and have won the past 18 meetings. In the last meeting, UVA won it 73-59 in Charlottesville on Feb. 22, 2015.
Panousis tallied 17 points in the game while Sidney Cook added 10. Campbell notched nine points, four rebounds and four steals. Venson dropped in 22 points for the Cavaliers while Moses had 13 and Mason added nine.
