Hokies set to host No. 17/17 Miami
Tech face Hurricanes at 7 p.m. on ESPN3

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host No. 17/17 Miami on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

THE HOKIES (14-5, 2-4 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell on the road, 80-41, to No. 3/3 Notre Dame the last time out. Sidney Cook had a season-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Vanessa Panousis added 10 points.

The Hokies kept it close in the opening 10 minutes of play and trailed the Irish 11-7 after the first quarter. Notre Dame outscored Tech 20-4 in the second frame to push the lead and never look back as they held a 49-30 advantage in the second half to secure the win.

Panousis leads the Hokies with 10.6 points per game. Hannah Young is adding 10.3 ppg and shooting 41.3 percent from the field, including a 44.7 percent clip from outside while pulling down 4.7 rebounds per game. Panousis is also handing out 2.2 assists per game. Cook is posting 8.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg while Chanette Hicks is adding 8.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.9 apg and 2.8 spg. Regan Magarity leads on the boards with 5.7 rpg.

THE HURRICANES (17-3, 5-2 ACC)
Miami faltered against then-No. 14/13 Florida State, 69-58. Adrienne Motley led the ‘Canes with 20 points while Keyona Hayes added 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Florida State held a 17-12 lead after the first quarter, but Miami answered in the second, outscoring the Seminoles 19-14 to send it into over time tied at 31. The Seminoles came out strong after the break, using a 18-12 advantage in the third frame to go on top for good.

Motley leads the ‘Canes with 16.4 ppg. Jessica Thomas is adding 11.9 ppg and has handed out 72 assists this season. Hayes is chipping in 9.7 ppg and grabbing 6.3 rpg.

THE SERIES
This marks the 21st meeting between the two teams with Miami leading the series 14-6. The Hurricanes won last season’s meeting 42-39 in Coral Gables. Panousis led the Hokies with 12 points while Taijah Campbell chipped in 10 points. Dominique Powell came off the bench to drop in eight points. The Hurricanes were led by Motley, who tallied 16 points.
