Hokies return to Cassell to host Clemson
Tech hosts Lady Tigers in RSN game Monday at 7 p.m.

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team returns to the court on Monday, Jan. 18 after a week-long break to host Clemson at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on RSN.

THE HOKIES (13-3, 1-2 ACC)
Virginia Tech dropped a road game at Syracuse 60-39 the last time out. Regan Magarity led Tech with 10 points and seven rebounds. Chanette Hicks added nine points and six rebounds.

The Hokies trailed by 11 at the break after Syracuse outscored Tech 29-18 in the opening 20 minutes. Tech kept it even in the third quarter, but were unable to get any closer than 10 and trailed the Orange 43-32 heading into the final frame. Syracuse used a strong fourth quarter to add to its advantage, outscoring Tech 17-7 in the last 10 minutes.

Hannah Young leads the Hokies on the season, averaging 10.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 46.5 percent from outside the arc. Vanessa Panousis is adding 10.2 points and 2.8 assists. Hicks is chipping in 9.3 ppg, tallying 2.9 steals and 3.9 assists per game. Magarity leads on the boards with 6.2 rpg and chipping in 8.1 ppg.

THE LADY TIGERS (4-12, 0-3 ACC)
Clemson fell to Florida State 85-40 in the team’s last outing. Nelly Perry led the Lady Tigers with 14 points while Sirah Diarra came off the bench for 10.

FSU led from the start, opening with a 9-2 run to hold a 25-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Clemson dropped in 16 points in the second frame, but the Seminoles maintained their advantage to go into the break on top 47-29. The Lady Tigers were unable to get a run going in the second half as FSU went on to win the game.

Perry leads the Lady Tigers with 14.7 ppg. Danielle Edwards is adding 10.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg and 3.1 apg and 2.1 spg. Aliyah Collier leads on the boards with 5.2 rebounds per game.

The Hokies and the Lady Tigers both faced Furman in the non-conference. Tech defeated the Paladins 59-30 while Clemson dropped a 70-49 decision on the road.

THE SERIES
This marks the 19th meeting between the two teams with Clemson leading the series tied 8-10. Clemson won the game last season in South Carolina, 63-54. Panousis had 16 points to lead the Hokies while Campbell tallied a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Sidney Cook also had a double-double, notching 14 points and 11 boards. Former Clemson player Nikki Dixon had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the game.

The Hokies won the last time the two teams met in Blacksburg, defeating Clemson 74-48. Panousis had 13 points in that game while Young tallied 10 points and nine rebounds. Former Tech player Uju Ugoka led all scorers with 23 points, 10 rebounds.

Up Next: Virginia Tech will remain at home to host NC State on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in a televised contest.
