BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will take to the road for the first time in 2016 as the Hokies travel to Louisville for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday, Jan. 7 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

THE HOKIES (13-1, 1-0 ACC)
Virginia Tech defeated Boston College, 58-33 to open the ACC slate. Hannah Young led all scorers with 13 points. Chanette Hicks tallied 11 points each, four assists and three steals. Vanessa Panousis added 11 points, four assists and three steals. Regan Magarity led on the boards with 10 rebounds while tallying five steals.
After the first quarter of play, the Hokies trailed the Eagles by two, but Tech went on a 13-0 run midway through the second frame to go on top by nine. Tech led BC 33-25 at the break. The Hokies’ defense dominated in the second half, holding Boston College to just eight points in the final 20 minutes
Panousis leads the Hokies on the season, averaging 11.0 points per game. Young is adding 10.8 points and 5.1 rebounds. Hicks is chipping in 9.6 ppg, tallying 2.9 steals and 3.8 assists per game. Magarity leads on the boards with 6.6 rpg and chipping in 8.3 ppg.
THE CARDINALS (10-5, 2-0 ACC)
Louisville picked up a 78-65 win over Georgia Tech the last time out. Mariya Moore tallied 25 points for the Cardinals while Myisha Hines-Allen dropped in 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Briahanna Jackson notched 13 points and Asia Durr recorded 11.
Louisville trailed Georgia Tech 33-30 after the opening half. The Cardinals went off in the second half, connecting on 60 percent from the field in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 23-15 in the frame. Louisville also held the advantage in the final quarter 25-17 to pick up the win.
Hines-Allen leads the Cardinals with 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Jackson is adding 14.6 ppg and 2.7 spg. Moore is notching 14.4 ppg and handing out 5.0 spg this season.
The Hokies and Cardinals both faced off against College of Charleston this season. Tech defeated the Cougars 81-47 while Louisville picked up a 71-67 decision over the Cougars. Hines-Allen led the Cardinals with 22 points and 14 rebounds while Tech was led by Panousis with 15 points and Hicks with 14.
THE SERIES
This marks the 34th meeting between the two teams with the Hokies leading the series 17-16. Louisville, ranked eighth at the time, won the game last season in Blacksburg, 69-49. Panousis had 11 points to lead the Hokies while Rachel Camp grabbed 10 rebounds. Moore is the top returner for the Cardinals, having tallied 14 points.
Virginia Tech won the game the last time the two teams met in Louisville, 56-54, but that was during the 1994-95 season. Former Tech player Jenny Root had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Hokies.
