The Hokies led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Patriots cut the lead down to three (32-29) at the break. Mason held the advantage in the final quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Hokies as Tech rolled to the win.

Panousis leads the Hokies after two games, averaging 17 points and six assists per game. Young is chipping in 11.5 points and grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game. Regan Magarity is adding 9.0 points while Hicks is post 8.5 ppg and recording 3.0 spg.

Georgetown defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 71-60 to open the season. The Hoyas were led by Dorothy Adomako with 23 points and seven rebounds. Katie McCormick tallied 14 points and Faith Woodard chipped in 11. Dominique Vitalis and Dionana White pulled down six rebounds each.

The Hoyas jumped out to a lead in the first quarter, going up 17-7. UMES kept the second quarter closer, but Georgetown took a 30-21 advantage into the break. The two teams were even in the third frame, but the Hoyas again outscored the Hawks 24-22 in the final quarter to secure the win.

THE SERIES
The Hokies lead the all-time series 4-2, but the two teams have not met since 2004 during Tech’s final season in the Big East. Virginia Tech won that contest 56-47 as part of the Big East Tournament.

Former Tech player Kerri Gardin led the Hokies with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Carrie Mason added 14 points while Dawn Chriss recorded 11.
