THE HOKIES (9-4)
Virginia Tech downed Hofstra, 60-43 the last time out. Vanessa Panousis led all scorers with 23 points. Rachel Camp, Kelsey Conyers and Dominique Powell added eight points each. Sidney Cook grabbed 14 rebounds and Powell pulled down 10.
The Hokies and Pride kept it close in the opening half, but Tech closed out with a 14-3 run to take a 28-20 lead into the break. In the second half, The teams traded baskets to open, but five straight points from Panousis put the Hokies on top 37-24 after four minutes. Tech extended its lead to 18 midway through. Hofstra was never able to get any closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Camp is leading the Hokies on the season, averaging 17.6 points per game and currently ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring and is the top freshman in the league. In addition, Camp is pulling down 7.1 rebounds per game, ranking 12th in the league. Panousis is adding 14.0 points and handing out 3.9 assists per game to rank fourth in the conference. The sophomore guard is also fourth on the ACC list for three-pointers made, averaging 2.6.
THE TIGERS (8-5)
Clemson closed out its non-conference slate with a 64-47 win over NJIT. Shelbie Davenport led the Tigers with 15 points. Tiffany Lewis came off the bench for 12 points and Nikki Dixon tallied 11. Davenport also led the Tigers on the boards with six rebounds.
CU took control of the game in the first half and led 33-19 at the break. NJIT was able to close it to six in the second half, but the Tigers answered with a 12-3 run that put Clemson up by double-digits the rest of the way.
Dixon leads the Tigers with 15.2 points per game, ranking 11th in the ACC. In addition, Dixon is grabbing 5.5 boards per game. Nyilah Jamison-Myers is recording 11.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, but has been sidelined for all but three games in the non-conference with an injury. Davenport is chipping in 10.1 points per game.
THE SERIES
This marks the 18th meeting between the two teams with Clemson holding the slight 9-8 advantage in the series. The Tigers won the last contest, 69-56 in the opening round of the 2014 ACC Tournament. Conyers is the top returner from the game for the Hokies, having tallied 10 points. Dixon had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers. The Hokies also met last season in Blacksburg. Panousis had 13 points in the 74-48 win while Hannah Young added 10.
