THE HOKIES (8-4)
Virginia Tech recorded its 600th program win the last time out after defeating Radford 73-60 on Dec. 21. Rachel Camp led the Hokies with 22 points while Vanessa Panousis chipped in 21. Sidney Cook was just shy of a double-double, having tallied nine points and nine rebounds.

The Hokies and Highlanders kept it close in the opening half with Tech holding the slight 28-27 lead going into the break. In the second half, Tech opened with a 13-4 run to break open the scoring early in the frame. Radford answered back and was able to cut it down to four (53-49) with 6:22 to go. That is as close as the Highlanders would get as Cook and Panousis combined for nine straight points to hold off the RU surge. Tech never let it get under double-digits again as the Hokies claimed the win.

Camp is leading the Hokies on the season, averaging 18.4 points per game and currently ranks fifth in the ACC in scoring and is the top freshman. In addition, Camp is pulling down 7.3 rebounds per game, ranking 13th in the league. Panousis is adding 13.3 points and handing out 3.9 assists per game to rank fifth in the conference. The sophomore guard is also third on the ACC list for three-pointers made, averaging 2.6.

THE PRIDE (7-3)
Hofstra defeated Boston College 75-61 in its last contest before the holiday break. The Pride had four players score in double-digits and were led by Kelly Loftus with 22. Elo Edeferioka added 15 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. Krystal Luciano tallied 12 points and Ashunae Durant chipped in 10.

Hofstra already led 34-26 at the break before Loftus went to work, scoring 20 of her 22 points in the second half to lead the Pride to the win. The Pride and Hokies have one team in common in the non-conference slate as both defeated Norfolk State earlier in the season. Hofstra claimed the 64-47 win over the Spartans while the Hokies won 60-49.

Loftus leads the Pride on the season, averaging 12.6 points per game. Edeferoika is averaging a double-double with 12.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Durant is notching 11.2 ppg. Luciano and Darius Faulk have handed out 40 and 34 assists, respectively, on the season.

THE SERIES
Virginia Tech and Hofstra have met just once before as the Hokies took a 77-72 overtime win last season in Hempstead, N.Y. Vanessa Panousis is the top returner from the game, having tallied 14 points and five assists. Hannah Young grabbed 12 rebounds and Taijah Campbell notched 10 rebounds and five blocks. Hofstra’s top returners are Asia Jackson, Edeferioka and Jakelle King-Gilchrist with six points each.

Up Next: The Hokies will open the ACC slate, traveling to Clemson for a Jan. 2 contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum.
