BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host Western Carolina on Sunday, Dec. 14 at noon in Cassell Coliseum.

THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech defeated NC Central, 80-44 the last time out as freshman Rachel Camp tallied her third double-double of the season and second in as many games with 29 points and 12 rebounds. Samantha Hill added 15 points and Hannah Young posted 10.

The Hokies dominated from the beginning after getting out with a 10-0 run, Tech kept its momentum going in the first half to take a 47-15 lead into the break. In the second half, the Hokies kept its lead and took its largest in the final minutes, going on top by 40 (79-39) off a layup from Khadedra Croker with 1:29 to go.

Camp is leading the Hokies on the season, averaging 16.6 points per game and currently ranks eighth in the ACC in scoring. In addition, Camp is pulling down 7.2 rebounds per game, ranking 13th in the league. Regan Magarity is one of four players in the ACC averaging a double-double with 14.0 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, but has been sidelined the past five games with an injury. Vanessa Panousis is adding 11.4 points and handing out 4.0 assists per game.

THE CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina defeated USC Upstate, 63-59 in overtime in the Catamount’s last outing. Justin Taylor had 15 points while Emily Hatfield added 10 for WCU. Mackensey Campbell pulled down 10 rebounds.

The game was close throughout with WCU holding a slight 27-26 lead at the break. Upstate got up to a seven point advantage in the second half and was up by three with 28 seconds left. WCU’s Ali Lane hit a three-pointer with nine seconds to go to send it into overtime. The Catamounts outscored the Spartans 9-5 in the overtime period.

Taylor leads the Catamounts, averaging 19.3 points per game, ranking second in the SoCon. Ace Easter and Sherae Bonner are adding 7.5 and 7.3 ppg, respectively. Bonner also leads WCU on the boards with 10.7 rebounds per game. Ali Lane is handing out 2.8 assists per game.

THE SERIES
Virginia Tech leads the series 3-0 and won the last meeting 70-52 on March 17, 2007 as part of the WNIT. Former Hokie Brittany Cook dropped in 20 points while Nare Diawara added 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
