BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Rachel Camp recorded her second double-double of the season as the Virginia Tech women’s basketball rolled past Longwood, 74-42 on Saturday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum.

“We needed a win after a rough week,” said head coach Dennis Wolff. “I thought the team came with good energy today. Longwood is a gritty team, they had their leading scorer out and they try hard. We needed to get back on the right track and I think this was a good way to do it.”

Camp tallied 16 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in the Hokies’ (5-4) win. Vanessa Panousis added 13 points while Hannah Young, Dominique Powell and Lindsey Oblitey each added seven points. Every Tech player that appeared in the game got on the board.

The Hokies opened the game with a 12-0 run in the first four minutes before Longwood got on the board with a three-pointer at 15:03. Tech kept the momentum going however outscoring the Lancers 8-0 to go on top 20-3 with 11:39 to play in the half. Longwood scored on back-to-back possessions and trailed by 14 (24-10) with just over eight minutes to go. That is as close as the Lancers would get in the first half as the Hokies finished out with a 15-4, taking the 39-14 lead into the break.

Coming out of the intermission, the Hokies pushed their lead to 30 in the opening eight minutes, going up 55-25 with 11:43 to play in the second half. Tech took its largest lead of the game at the 5:26 mark as Kelsey Conyers drained a three to push the score to 70-35.

Tech connected on 47.5 percent from the field, hitting 29-of-61. The Hokies also knocked down 7-of-21 from outside the arc. Virginia Tech dominated inside, pulling down 45 rebounds to Longwood’s 27 while tallying 34 points in the paint.

The Hokies will return to the court on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. when they take on North Carolina Central in Cassell Coliseum.
