Tech wraps up regular season at No. 9/7 Maryland
The Hokies will face the Terps at 2 p.m. on Sunday

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, March 2 when the Hokies travel to No. 9/7 Maryland. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.

The Hokies
The last time out, the Hokies rolled past Clemson, 74-48, on Feb. 27 for Tech’s third consecutive ACC win.

The Hokies and Tigers traded baskets early in the opening minutes as Clemson trailed by three with 11 minutes to go, but Tech went on 13-4 run to extend the lead. Virginia Tech took the 34-22 advantage in to the break. Clemson cut it down to a single-digit difference with 15:07 to go, but the Hokies answered with a 25-5 run over the next ten minutes, taking their largest lead, going up 29 (67-38) with 4:10 on the clock and putting the game out of reach.

Uju Ugoka led the Hokies with her 15th double-double of the season, recording 23 points and 11 rebounds. Vanessa Panousis tallied 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers that broke the Tech freshman season record that was set by Sarah Hillyer durign the 1989-90 campaign. Hannah Young added 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Ugoka leads Tech on the year, averaging 18.9 points and 9.8 rebounds. She is fourth in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding. Panousis is notching 12.9 points and chipping in 4.1 assists. Monet Tellier is adding 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.65 assists.

The Terrapins
Maryland claimed a 92-66 win over Boston College on Feb. 27 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The two teams kept it close in the first half and were tied at 29 with 5:37 to go before the Terps used a 21-9 run to take the 50-38 lead in to the break. Maryland dominated in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 42-28 to secure the win.

Alyssa Thomas had 26 points and nine rebounds to lead the Terrapins. Lexie Brown recorded 12 points and handed out six assists. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 11 points.

Thomas leads the Terrapins on the season, averaging 18.7 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, in addition, Thomas leads the NCAA in triple-doubles this season having tallied four. Walker-Kimbrough is adding 9.9 ppg and Brown is averaging 9.3 ppg.

The Series
Maryland leads the series 8-6 and won last season 74-45 in Blacksburg. Ugoka had 12 points while Tellier added 11 for the Hokies. Thomas recorded 26 points and 18 rebounds for the Terps.

Virginia Tech won the last meeting in College Park though, defeating Maryland 75-69 on Jan. 26, 2012 when the Terrapins were ranked eighth. Tellier dropped in 31 points for the Hokies while Porschia Hadley recorded 14.

Up Next: The Hokies will open the ACC Tournament on Wednesday, March 5 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
