BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will play its second Big Ten opponent of the week when the Hokies host No. RV/25 Michigan State on Saturday, Nov. 7. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
Saturday's contest is Montgomery County Christmas Store day, so bring a new, unwrapped toy to the game and receive a complimentary ticket to a future women's basketball game. All toys collected will benefit the Montgomery County Christmas Store.

The Hokies
The last time out, Virginia Tech rallied but fell short to Indiana, 71-65 on Wednesday. Dec. 4 in the 2013 Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
The first half was a game of runs with the Hoosiers going on the final run of the half to take a 35-25 lead in to the break. Tech trailed by 18 going in to the final 10 minutes of the game when Uju Ugoka took over, scoring 13 straight points to get the Hokies within seven. Hannah Young knocked down a pair of three-pointers, and the Hokies closed to three with 2:04 to go on the clock. The Hoosiers were able to hold on for the win, going 6-of-7 from the line in the final 90 seconds.
Ugoka had 26 of her career-high 32 points in the second half to lead the Hokies. In addition, Ugoka pulled down 11 rebounds, becoming just the fifth player in the Tech record book to record 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in the same game. Ugoka’s 32 points is the highest single-game total in the ACC so far this season. Monet Tellier added 11 points while Young finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.
Ugoka leads Tech on the season, averaging 18.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. She is one of four players in the ACC currently averaging a double-double and ranks fourth in scoring and second in rebounding. Vanessa Panousis is adding 11.3 points per game while Tellier is tallying 10.5 ppg and handing out 4.8 assists per game to rank third in the league.
The Spartans
Michigan State was edged by Florida State, 60-58 during the Spartans’ Big Ten/ACC Challenge game on Wednesday in Tallahassee, Fla. Annalise Pickrel led the Spartans with 20 points, hitting 8-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-8 from outside the arc. Aerial Powers added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for MSU.
Virginia Tech is the third ACC team that MSU has faced this season. In addition to Florida State, the Spartans played Notre Dame last month, falling 81-62 to the Irish.
Pickrel is leading the team with 15.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Powers is adding 14.0 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Tori Jankoska rounds out the double-digit scoring for the Spartans, averaging 13.8 ppg. Kiana Johnson has a team-high 40 assists with Klarissa Bell tallying 28.
The Series
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series, 2-1, but Michigan State picked up the win in the most recent meeting. The Spartans won 57-29 last season in East Lansing, Mich. Former Hokie Aerial Wilson had eight points for Tech while current sophomore Taijah Campbell grabbed six rebounds. Jasmine Hines came off the bench to lead a balanced Spartan offense with 12 points. Three others tallied 10 points each, including current players, Bell and Becca Mills. The Hokies are 7-16 all-time against teams from the Big Ten Conference.
Up Next: The Hokies have just a little over a week before hosting USC Upstate on Sunday, Dec. 15. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.
