BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball is set to host in-state foe Richmond on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies
The last time out, Virginia Tech outlasted Hofstra, 77-72 in an overtime win on the road. A close game throughout, Monet Tellier hit a jumper with one second left in regulation to send the game in to overtime. In the extra minutes, Tech out scored the Pride 10-5 to secure the win. Tellier finished the game with 20 points, scoring 18 of them after halftime. Uju Ugoka posted a game-high 26 points while Vanessa Panousis chipped in 14. Hannah Young had a game-best 12 rebounds and Taijah Campbell grabbed 10 rebounds while recording three assists, five blocks and two steals.

As a team, the Hokies shot over 40 percent from the field for the fifth consecutive game. Tech connected on 44.6 percent, shooting 33-of-74 from the field. The last time Tech shot .400 or better from the field for five consecutive games was during the 2007-08 season.

The Hokies have now put up 70 or more points in five straight games. Tech last had such a streak in Dec. 2004-Jan. 2005 when the Hokies scored 70 or more in seven consecutive games. The Hokies last opened the season in this manner when they kicked off the 1985-86 campaign.

The Spiders
Richmond most recently fell to North Carolina A&T, 69-60 this past weekend on the road. Genevieve Okoro led the Spiders with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kristina King added 10 points, three assists and three steals. Olivia Healy also handed out three assists.

Virginia Tech marks the second ACC opponent the Spiders have faced this season. Richmond defeated Miami, 57-50 earlier in the season on the road. King had 11 points in that game while Okoro and Janelle Hubbard added 10 each. King also pulled down 11 boards and Liz Brown tallied 10.

Healy is leading the team with 11.0 points per game. King is adding 10.8 and Okoro is tallying 10.4 ppg while pulling down 8.8 rebounds. Healy and King also lead the team in assists, averaging 2.0 per game each.

The Series
The two teams are tied 5-5 in the all-time series. Richmond won the most recent meeting, last season 65-56 in Richmond. Tellier recorded 20 points for the Hokies while Lauren Evans added 12. The Spiders were led by Rachael Bilney with 16 points. Becca Wann added 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds, tallied five assists and three steals.

Up Next: The Hokies remain at home, hosting Presbyterian on Saturday, Nov. 30. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in Blacksburg.
