Volleyball travels to Syracuse, Boston College
Tech wraps up regular season on the road

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team is set for a final road swing of the 2014 season, traveling to Syracuse on Wednesday, Nov. 26 for a 7 p.m. match. The Hokies will wrap up the trip on Friday, Nov. 28 in a noon match at Boston College.

THE HOKIES (15-14, 8-8 ACC)
Virginia Tech defeated both Wake Forest on Friday before taking care of Georgia Tech on Saturday, defeating both teams with scores of 3-0. Lindsey Owens knocked down 10 kills for the Hokies against the Yellow Jackets. In the senior night match all four of the Hokies seniors put up solid numbers with LaTasha Samson-Akpan tallying nine kills and three blocks and Kathryn Caine adding seven kills. Jordan Fish put up 23 assists and Megan Beckwith led the back row with 14 digs.

Owens leads Tech on the season, averaging 3.31 kills per set. Caine is adding 2.38 kps and Amanda McKinzie is tallying 2.07 kps. Kennedy Bryan is chipping in 2.0 kps. Fish splits time in the setter spot with Kyra Coundourides as the two are putting up 6.36 and 4.67 assists per set, respectively.

Defensively, Beckwith leads the back line with 3.48 dps. At the net, Ashley Battle has recording 131 blocks this season to average 1.17 per set. Samson-Akpan has added 98 total blocks.

THE ORANGE (8-20, 1-15 ACC)
Syracuse has dropped its last eight matches including a 3-0 loss last weekend at Florida State. Silvi Uattara led the Orange with 11 kills while Stacey Smith added seven. Syracuse’s lone ACC win was a 3-0 decision over Wake Forest.

Uattara leads the Orange this season with 3.56 kps. Monika Salkute is adding 2.53 kps and Lindsay McCabe is posting 1.51. Gosia Wlaszczuk has notched 749 assists, averaging 7.34.

On the defensive side, Uattara also leads with 2.72 dps with Belle Sand recording 2.68 dps. The Orange have a pair of blockers at the net who are averaging more than one each set with McCabe’s 1.36 and Leah Levert’s 1.24.

THE EAGLES (11-16, 6-10 ACC)
Boston College fell to Miami 3-0 the last time out. The Eagles had a balanced attack with three players knocking down seven kills including Kam McLain, Katty Workman and Sol Calvete.

Workman is leading the Eagles with 3.7 kps while Julie Topor is adding 2.7. Calvete is chipping in 2.18 kps. In the setter position, Kellie Barnum is putting up 8.81 aps.

Courtney Castle has been strong in the Eagles’ backcourt with 4.20 dps while Anna Skold leads the defense at the net with 77 blocks this season.
