Hokies wrap up home slate hosting Wake Forest, Georgia Tech
Volleyball host Deacs Friday, Yellow Jackets Saturday for senior night

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team will wrap up its home schedule this weekend, hosting Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Hokies welcome Georgia Tech to Cassell Coliseum for senior night. Match time is set for 6 p.m.

The Hokies will recognize seniors Megan Beckwith, Kathryn Caine, Jordan Fish and LaTasha Samson-Akpan prior to the game against the Yellow Jackets.

THE HOKIES (13-14, 6-8 ACC)
Virginia Tech picked up a pair of wins last weekend, defeating Virginia and Pittsburgh on the road with scores of 3-1. In the match against Pitt, Lindsey Owens and Kathyrn Caine led the Hokies with 12 kills each. Helping the team to the win was its defensive play as the Hokies tallied a season-best 18 blocks and were led by LaTasha Samson-Akpan with nine.

Owens leads the Hokies on the season, averaging 3.27 kills per set. Caine is adding 2.42 kps and Amanda McKinzie is knocking down 2.01 kps. Jordan Fish and Kyra Coundourides split time running the offense with Fish putting up 6.32 assists per set while Coundourides is recording 4.56 aps.

Defensively the Hokies have been strong at the net recently and are led by Ashley Battle with 1.18 bps, having totaled 125 on the season. Samson-Akpan has tallied 90 and Owens 64. In the backcourt, Megan Beckwith leads the charge with 3.45 digs per set and McKinzie is averaging 2.62 dps.

THE DEMON DEACONS (15-13, 5-9 ACC)
Wake Forest also claimed a pair of wins last weekend, defeating Notre Dame 3-2 on Friday before picking up a 3-0 win over Louisville on Saturday. Against the Cardinals, the Demon Deacons were led by Jazmen Russell’s 22 kills and Kylie Long’s 16.

Russell leads the Deacs this season with 4.45 kps. Mattlee Reed is adding 2.49 kps and Long is chipping in 2.03 kps. Danae Rosendall is putting up 7.60 aps and Sophia Dodd is tallying 7.26 aps.

For the defense, Caroline Wolf is recording 4.35 dps to lead the back line while Reed has tallied 97 blocks for the front row.

THE YELLOW JACKETS (12-15, 5-9 ACC)
Georgia Tech defeated Boston College 3-2 the last time out. Four players tallied double-digit kills for the Yellow Jackets with Courtney Felinski leading the way with 16. Teegan Van Gunst and Annika Van Gunst added 14 and 12 kills, respectively, while Sydney Wilson had 10.

The Van Gunst sisters lead the Yellow Jackets on the season with Teegan knocking down 3.44 kps and Annika tallying 2.74 kps. Felinski is also in the mix with 2.78 kps. Rebecca Martin is putting up 9.13 aps.

London Ackermann leads Georgia Tech’s backcourt defense with 3.67 dps while at the net Wilson has recorded 95 blocks on the season.

ALL-TIME vs. THE OPPONENTS
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series against Wake Forest 27-12, but fell 3-2 earlier this season in Winston-Salem. Owens had 16 kills for the Hokies with McKinzie adding 13 and Caine tallying 10. Russell led the Deacs with 16 kills and Reed had 10.

The Hokies trail 12-8 in the all-time series versus Georgia Tech. Last season when the teams met, the Yellow Jackets won 3-1 in Atlanta. Kennedy Bryan had 11 kills and Caine tallied 10 in the match. Felinski recorded 12 kills for Georgia Tech while Annika Van Gunst knocked down 10.

UP NEXT
The Hokies will wrap up the regular season on the road, traveling to Syracuse on Wednesday, Nov. 26 for a 7 p.m. match. Tech will stay on the road for its final game, making the trip to Boston College for a 1 p.m. match on Friday, Nov. 28.
