BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech volleyball team will make the trip to Florida for two matches beginning with Miami on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in Coral Gables before traveling to Tallahassee to face the fourth-ranked Florida State Seminoles on Sunday at 1 p.m.

THE HOKIES (8-10, 1-4 ACC)
Virginia Tech looks to bounce back after a hard-fought five-set loss to rival Virginia the last time out. Kathryn Caine led the Hokies against UVA with 16 kills while Kennedy Bryan added 13 and Lindsey Owens tallied 11.

Owens leads Tech on the season, averaging 3.43 kills per set. Caine is adding 2.39 kps and Bryan is posting 2.07 kps. Amanda McKinzie is knocking down 2.02 kps. Jordan Fish and Kyra Coundourides run the offense, tallying 6.39 and 4.70 assists per set, respectively.

On the defensive side, the Hokies are led by Megan Beckwith in the backcourt with 3.31 digs per set while Ashley Battle is recording 1.13 blocks per set.

THE HURRICANES (11-6, 4-2 ACC)
Miami defeated Boston College 3-0 in the ‘Canes last outing. Savanah Leaf led Miami with 17 kills and Emani Sims added 11.

Leaf leads the ‘Canes and the ACC this season with 4.17 kps. Taylor Scott is knocking down 2.38 kps and Kelsie Groot is tallying 2.22 kps. Haley Templeton is putting up 10.77 aps for the offensive side.

Kalysta White leads the ‘Canes backcourt with 3.37 dps and Sims is strong at the net for Miami with 1.18 bps.

THE SEMINOLES (17-0, 6-0 ACC)
Florida State will face Florida A&M on Friday before the Hokies come to town. The ‘Noles downed NC State 3-0 last weekend. Kiara Wright led FSU with 14 kills while Sarah Burrington added nine.

Nicole Walch is averaging 4.17 kps to lead the Seminoles on the season. Katie Horton is chipping in 2.63 kps and Burrington is tallying 2.11 kps. The offense runs through Sarah Wickstrom and Hailey Luke at the setter spot. Wickstrom is putting up 6.55 aps and Luke is recording 5.12 aps.

Burrington is also solid on the defense for FSU, posting 1.42 bps in the frontcourt. On the backline, Katie Mosher is averaging 4.60 dps.

ALL-TIME vs. THE OPPONENTS
Miami holds the 14-7 lead in the all-time series, but the Hokies claimed a 3-1 win over the ‘Canes last season. Owens recorded 15 kills for the Hokies while LaTasha Samson-Akpan added 11. Miami was led by Sims with 13 and Leaf had 12.

FSU also has the lead in the all-time series as the Hokies trail 27-4. However, one of those four wins came last season when Tech defeated the ‘Noles 3-1. Former Hokies Victoria Hamsher and Samantha Gostling led Tech, combining for 35 kills. Top returners for the Hokies from that match are Caine and Samson-Akpan who had nine kills each. Walch led the Seminoles with 12 kills.

The Hokies return to Cassell for the start of a four-match home stand beginning with Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. The match marks Tech’s PINK! Fight Cancer! night for breast cancer awareness.
