Several Hokies set sights on national titles at 2015 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A host of members from the Virginia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will have their sights set on a national championship title at the 2015 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas on Friday and Saturday evening.

Twelve athletes representing Virginia Tech will be competing at the meet, ten on the men’s side and two on the women’s side.

In the field, the men’s team will have representation in the triple jump, weight throw and the pole vault. Manuel Ziegler will compete in the triple jump for the Hokies. Ziegler currently ranks fourth in the nation in the event with a mark of 54’6” (16.61m) that was set at the ACC Championships. Tomas Kruzliak will be competing in the weight throw with his best mark this season (70’3.5”, 21.42m) coming during the Hokie Invitational. Chris Uhle will represent Tech in the pole vault. Uhle has hit a height of 18’1.25” (5.52m) this season.

In the running events, the Hokies will have two individual representatives from the women’s team, two individuals competing on the men’s side and the men’s distance medley relay team.

Both Hanna Green and Amanda Smith will be competing in the women’s 800-meter race. Green is coming off of an ACC title in the event that saw her run down the nation’s leader in the final stretch to claim the gold. Smith is a two-time ACC Champion in the event and earned All-America honors in the same event last season.

Patrick Joseph will compete for Tech in the mile fresh off of an ACC Championship in the same event. Joseph’s best time this season came at the Hilton Garden Innvitational where he crossed the finish line in 3:57.44. Thomas Curtin will run in both the 3000 meter race and the 5000 meter race. He ranks in the top 10 nationally in both events.

The men’s distance medley relay team consisting of four-time ACC Champion Grant Pollock, Neil Gourley - the bronze medalist in the mile at this year’s ACC Championships - Prince Owusu and Juan Campos. Vincent Ciattei will be the alternate should one of the aforementioned athletes not be able to compete on the day of competition.

Friday will consist of preliminaries for all of the individual running events except for the 5000-meter race, which will be a final, and the finals for the men’s distance medley relay, the men’s pole vault and the men’s weight throw.

Saturday will consist of finals for all the qualifiers from day one as well as the men’s triple jump final.

Both Friday’s and Saturday’s events will be broadcasted live on ESPN3. Live results will also be available.
