Hokies compete well at Jace Lacoste Invitational and Tennessee Challenge
Tech posts three first-place finishes at meets

STARKVILLE, Miss. and KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech track and field team continued an impressive run of performances at the Jace Lacoste Invitational hosted by Mississippi State University and the Tennessee Challenge hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Johnna Dominick led the way for the women’s team at the Jace Lacoste Invitational with a second-place finish in the women’s high jump. Dominick’s mark of 5’7” (1.70m) was her second-highest mark of the season.

In the women’s 400-meter race, Jasmine Mitchell finished in fourth place after posting a time of 54.41 seconds. Christine London earned a sixth-place finish in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.22 seconds.

Also at the Jace Lacoste Invitational, Dante Price put in an array of quality performances, finishing first in the men’s 200-meter dash and second in the men’s 100-meter dash. Price hit 20.91 seconds in the 200 and 10.47 seconds in the 100.

Chris Uhle finished in first place in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 16’6.75” (5.05m). Matt Hoogland finished in sixth place with a mark of 14’7.25” (4.45m).

Daniel McFadden (14.48 seconds) and Marcus Finney (14.50 seconds) finished in third and fourth places respectively in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.

At the Tennessee Challenge, the women’s team swept the top-two spots in the women’s javelin throw. Sabine Kopplin finished in first with a throw of 165’1.5” (50.33m) while teammate Sarah Kadelka finished in second with a throw of 148’0” (45.11m).

Paige Kvartunas earned a fifth-place finish in the women’s 1500-meter race with a time of 4:40.14, while teammate Madalyn Nuckols posted a fifth place finish in the women’s 3000-meter race with a time of 9:53.64.

On the men’s side, Prince Owusu finished in third place in the men’s 800-meter race with a time of 1:52.17. Daniel Jaskowak posted a fifth-place finish in the men’s 3000-meter race with a time of 8:39.82 and Ashkan Mohammadi finished in seventh place in the men’s 1500-meter race with a time of 3:56.55.

This concludes the Hokies competing at both the Jace Lacoste Invitational and the Tennessee Challenge. Tomorrow, Tech will have several distance runners competing at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford University.
