Five Hokies named All-Americans on day one of NCAA Championships
Schultze earns honor for the fifth time of her career

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – Martina Schultze, Leoule Degfae, Tihut Degfae, Martin Dally and Grant Pollock were all named All-Americans to highlight the first day of the 2014 DI Indoor Track & Field National Championships. Schultze was named an All-American for the fifth time in her career while Tihut Degfae earned the distinction for the second time.

The men’s distance medley relay team consisting of Leoule Degfae, Tihut Degfae, Martin Dally and Grant Pollock earned All-America honors after finishing in sixth place with a time of 9:42.82.

Schultze earned All-America honors after finishing in seventh place in the women’s pole vault, posting a mark of 14’01.25” (4.30m). Schultze has yet to miss out on All-America honors since arriving at Tech as a freshman putting her in fourth on Tech’s all-time list for career All-America honors.

Amanda Smith earned an automatic spot in tomorrow’s 800-meter final after finishing second in her heat and posting a time of 2:07.57.

Tomorrow, Torben Laidig will be competing for the Hokies in the men’s pole vault and Amanda Smith will race in the women’s 800-meter final. Laidig will begin competing at 8 p.m. while Smith will run her race at 9:15 p.m. Coverage will be available on ESPN3.
