BLACKSBURG (hokiesports.com) - A pair of home runs, including one from senior Courtney Liddle in her final at bat at Tech Softball Park, lifted the Virginia Tech softball team to a 4-0 win over Maryland Sunday afternoon to wrap up the regular season.

Tech wasted little time getting on the board with Lauren Gaskill leading off the bottom of the first inning with a home run on the first pitch she saw, cranking it to right-center field for her seventh home run of the season.

That would be the way it stood until the sixth inning, when Tech tacked on two runs. Dani Anderson singled and then Liddle, the senior who has etched her name all throughout the Tech record book, laced a two-run home run down the line that just remained fair to make it 3-0. After Kylie McGoldrick singled and pinch runner Nina Compton moved up on the sac bunt, Kat Banks drove in Compton with a single up the middle to make it 4-0.

Senior Jasmin Harrell (W, 16-8) was magnificent in her final appearance at Tech Softball Park, tossing her first shut out of the season. She went the distance, allowing just four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Tech’s seven hits came from Anderson (two), Banks (two), Liddle, Gaskill and McGoldrick.

The game marked the final home contest for Tech’s four seniors: Harrell, Liddle, Betty Rose and Bkaye Smith. The quartet has amassed 138 wins in their four-year careers in Blacksburg.

Tech finished the regular season with a 34-18 record, 9-11 in the ACC while Maryland fell to 31-25, 13-8 in the conference.

Despite the win, with Georgia Tech’s win over Boston College, Tech will be the No. 6 seed in next week’s ACC Championship, held at Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. The Hokies will face third-seeded Maryland in the first round of the tournament. That 3/6 match up will take place Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the opening game of the tournament and will be broadcast live on RSN, as well as on ESPN3 (online).
