Tech runs well at Hokie Open
Campos, Sheridan finish first in respective meets

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The men’s and women’s cross country teams were out on the course again this afternoon in the Hokie Open at the cross country course in Blacksburg, Va. Both teams performed well in their final home meet of the season. The women ran a 4k race while the men ran a 6k.

The men came out strong with sophomore Juan Campos as the top finisher with a time of 18:27.60. Senior Tihut Degfae finished right behind him with a time of 18:30.30. Freshmen Vincent Ciattei and Daniel Jaskowak and sophomore George Carter finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively. The only other team to compete in the race was Liberty with only one runner.

The women were just as dominant over Liberty in their 4k race. Sophomore Katherine Sheridan finished in the top spot with a time of 13:59.30. Junior Amanda Smith was close behind in her second place finish with a time of 14:08.80. Senior Frances Dowd finished in third with a time of 14:09.40. Junior Katarina Smiljanec and freshman Hannah Green rounded out the top 5 for the Hokies.

The teams will travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Nov. 15 to compete in the Southeast Region Championships.
