BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech baseball team was limited to just five hits as William & Mary registered a 7-0 nonconference victory at English Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Tribe (7-4) plated three runs in the third frame - a two-out two RBI single by Michael Katz keyed the inning - and the fourth inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead. They added a single run in the ninth on an RBI triple by Tim Hoehn.

Tech (6-4) stranded nine runners on base, including runners on first and third in the second, and first and second in the sixth.

The Hokies finally chased Tribe starter Nick Brown in the seventh when Saige Jenco, who also had a hit and a stolen base, walked for the second time to put two runners on board. However, Daniel Powers ended the threat and pitched a scoreless eighth as well and Joseph Gaouette threw the ninth.

Brown improved to 2-0 with the win, while Matt Tulley, who started his first career game for Tech, took the loss. Jon Woodcock threw 3.0 scoreless frames in relief and Andrew McDonald saw his first action of the season, tossing the final two innings for the Hokies.

Tech will take a day off before opening up ACC play with a three-game road series at Clemson, which begins on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. start.
