EDINBORO, Pa. – The 10th-ranked Hokies defeated Edinboro 29-7 on Sunday, completing consecutive undefeated weekends after Friday’s win over 17th-ranked Pittsburgh.
Tech moved to 13-2 on the season, sitting in second place in the ACC, one victory behind NC State. The Hokies will face off against the Wolfpack next Friday in Raleigh, N.C.
No. 14 Zack Zavatsky picked up a huge upset victory at 184 pounds, downing second-ranked Vic Avery 3-1 in sudden victory overtime. Eleventh-ranked freshman David McFadden also took his match into overtime, picking up a clutch takedown to win 6-4.
Dennis Gustafson put the Hokies on the board first, starting the afternoon with a 15-0 technical fall for a 5-0 lead. Solomon Chishko followed with a strong performance, recording a 14-4 major decision.
Two more VT grapplers, seventh-ranked Jared Haught and third-ranked Zach Epperly, also scored bonus victories, dominating their opponents 13-2 and 10-2, respectively.
The Hokies closed the afternoon with victories from Ty Walz and Joey Dance. Walz won a 5-3 decision against Billy Miller and Dance dominated from the outset on his way to a 6-2 win.
Tech is back in action next weekend when they head down to North Carolina to face off against the undefeated Wolfpack of North Carolina State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Duke on Saturday at 1 p.m.
