CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Virginia Tech used an 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to knot the game up at 50 before Virginia won the game from the free throw line, pulling out a 61-52 victory at John Paul Jones Arena.

The loss moves the Hokies to 13-7, 2-5 in conference play ahead of two home games next week.

“Obviously we came in here in a hostile environment and I thought we played hard enough to win,” head coach Kenny Brooks said. “I don’t think we played smart enough to win. We didn’t capitalize on some of the opportunities that we had. The third quarter in particular I thought we really pushed ourselves to put ourselves in positon.

“They were a lot of the shots that I want our kids to step up and take and we just didn’t capitalize on the opportunities,” said Brooks.

The Hokies shot 28.1 percent from the field and made just four 3-pointers on the afternoon, after knocking down 13 last time out against Duke.

Taylor Emery led all scorers with 18 points in the game, 12 of which came in a spirited second half.
