CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chanette Hicks’ steal in the third quarter highlighted a spirited defensive effort by Virginia Tech, as the Hokies' junior guard became the program’s all-time leader in career steals with 253 in Tech's 64-44 win over Chattanooga on Sunday.

Tech forced 16 turnovers on the afternoon and held the Mocs to just 31 percent shooting from the field. At the half, Chattanooga had only mustered 19 points.

The Hokies started the game slow, with just 12 points in the first quarter behind 25 percent shooting, but was buoyed by 14 points in the paint in the second quarter from Magarity, Michelle Berry and Hicks.

Tech pulled away in the second and third quarters, when they shot north of 57 percent.

The Hokies dominated points in the paint, outscoring the Mocs 30-14.
