Hicks sets program record as Hokies get past Chattanooga 64-44
Magarity's sixth double-double of the season guides Tech to a fourth straight win

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chanette Hicks’ steal in the third quarter highlighted a spirited defensive effort by Virginia Tech, as the Hokies' junior guard became the program’s all-time leader in career steals with 253 in Tech's 64-44 win over Chattanooga on Sunday.
Tech forced 16 turnovers on the afternoon and held the Mocs to just 31 percent shooting from the field. At the half, Chattanooga had only mustered 19 points.
Tech was anchored once again by the steady play of redshirt junior forward Regan Magarity, who tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She contributed on the defensive end with two huge blocks in the game.
The Hokies started the game slow, with just 12 points in the first quarter behind 25 percent shooting, but was buoyed by 14 points in the paint in the second quarter from Magarity, Michelle Berry and Hicks.
Berry got the first start of her Virginia Tech career Sunday, recording seven points and nine rebounds in 33 minutes.
Tech pulled away in the second and third quarters, when they shot north of 57 percent.
The Hokies dominated points in the paint, outscoring the Mocs 30-14.
GAME NOTES
• Kendyl Brooks hit four 3-pointers for the second straight contest, extending her streak of hitting at least one 3-pointer to 19 straight games. She has hit at least one 3-pointer in 40 of the 44 games in which she has played in her career.
UP NEXT
The Hokies will travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey for a matchup with the Monmouth Hawks on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m, and the game can be viewed on ESPN3.
