Hicks named to watch list for Women's Citizen Naismith Trophy

ATLANTA (Nov. 29, 2017) – To continue its momentum into the 50th celebration season of the Citizen Naismith Trophy, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced 50 women’s college basketball players to watch for the Citizen Naismith Player of the Year Trophy and Virginia Tech guard Chanette Hicks is on the list. A list of the midseason 30 team will be released on Feb. 12, 2018.

“We are excited to announce 50 talented candidates vying to win the 2018 Women’s Citizen Naismith Trophy as we head into our 50th celebration season,” said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. “This upcoming season should be one to remember, and the journey to become the women’s top player of the year begins today.”

Hicks, a junior from Norfolk, Virginia, is averaging 12.4 points, 6.7 assists and 3.7 steals on the season for the Hokies.

With 13 more steals, she will set the program mark for steals in a career, surpassing Taiqua Brittingham’s record of 252 set in 1985.

Hicks and the Hokies are back on the floor Thursday night, as a part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. They will play Illinois in Champaign, Illinois at 8 p.m.

Tech returns to Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum on Sunday, for a 2 p.m. tip against New River valley rival Radford.
