Emery, Hokies push past Drexel 79-67

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Taylor Emery’s 15-point third quarter spurred the Hokies to victory Thursday afternoon from Titan Field House on the campus of East Florida State College, the site of the 2017 Paradise Jam.

The Tampa, Florida native shot 10-of-14 from the field including two triples, as she eclipsed the 20-point mark for the fourth time in five games. She led four Hokies in double figures in the scoring column.

Tech came out hot in the first quarter behind Kendyl Brooks’ back-to-back three pointers.

Before the break, Tech used 9-0 run to close out the second quarter, extending the lead to 11.

Drexel threatened throughout the third quarter outscoring the Hokies 27-19, led by Aubree Brown and Bailey Greenberg’s ability to hit open shots. Brown finished with 18 points on the afternoon, while Greenberg tallied 16.

Regan Magarity did most of her work in the second half, adding 12 points and six rebounds for Tech who only trailed by two points, briefly in the third quarter.

Chanette Hicks shot 75 percent from the field en route to tallying 19 points. The junior guard also recorded six steals, six assists and two blocks.

Alexis Jean from Port St. Lucie, Florida, turned in another double-double performance, her second of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Tech outrebounded the Dragons 38-21 and had the advantage at the free throw line knocking down 12-of-17 for the game.

GAME NOTES

• Chanette Hicks’ six steals Thursday moved her career tally to 234, moving her to just one steal behind Amy Wetzel for second all-time in program history, 18 behind Taquia Brittingham.

• Kendyl Brooks continued her impressive shooting streak, knocking down a three-pointer in her 13th consecutive game.

UP NEXT

The Hokies will take on the Butler Bulldogs on Friday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. Butler lost its first game of the Paradise Jam 75-68 to No. 11 West Virginia on Thursday afternoon.
