BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will tipoff the 2017-18 season on Friday, Nov. 10 against the Wagner Seahawks at 3:30 p.m. inside Cassell Coliseum. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Scouting the Seahawks
Picked 12th in the Northeast Conference in the preseason, Wagner is led by second year head coach Heather Jacobs. Last season, her first in Staten Island, the Seahawks went 4-25 including a 3-15 mark in league play.
Tanasia Russell, a senior guard, is the Seahawks’ returning top scorer, averaging 10.9 points in 2016-17.
Series History
Friday’s contest will be the first ever meeting on the hardwood between the two programs.
Up next for the Hokies: Tech returns to Carilion Clinic Court on Monday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. for a matchup with the Auburn Tigers out of the Southeastern Conference.
In last season’s meeting in Auburn, Alabama, the Hokies earned a 92-87 victory in overtime. Chanette Hicks’ double-double (18 points, 13 assists) keyed the win, along with her clutch free throws in the final minute to put the game away.
