Catching up with Kendyl Brooks
Sophomore sharpshooter on the upcoming season, Hokie Nation and more
October 31, 2017
Editor’s note: with 10 days until the start of the season, we caught up with No. 10 Kendyl Brooks
Q: What have you changed about your game in year two on campus?
Brooks: “I’m a lot more confident with not only my shooting but with dribbling and moving the ball quicker and looking for more than just a three-point shot.”
Q: What are you most looking forward to about the upcoming season?
Brooks: “I’m looking forward to seeing how our team molds together, because we have a lot of new people on our team. We have different players, so figuring out how to play with each other, I’m excited about that.”
Q: Last season you set the program record for 3’s in a season by a freshman (62). What are you going to do as an encore?
Brooks: “Maybe break my own record of three’s in a game.”
Q: What’s your favorite part of being a student-athlete at Virginia Tech, and being part of #HokieNation?
Brooks: “Everybody knows who you are and everybody appreciates what you do. Nothing that you do goes unrecognized. You could be walking in Kroger and somebody comes up to you and says, ‘You guys had an awesome season.’ They genuinely care about how you are doing at school and in basketball and even outside of that.”
Q: How would you assess the team’s offseason workouts, the chemistry and the ceiling for this group?
Brooks: “We’re not where we need to be right now, but we’re definitely getting there. We’re building and taking steps in the right direction, but there’s always room for improvement.”
BONUS ROUND
Q: If you didn’t play basketball what VT team would you try out for?
Brooks: “I really enjoyed playing volleyball in high school, so that would be the next best thing.”
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
Brooks: “I like hanging with people outside my team, just to see how their sports teams are doing and what their kind of workouts are. Even just other people that aren’t busy in a gym all day, every day.”
Q: Describe Kenny Brooks in a sentence
Brooks: “He’s a really easy person to please when you work hard. As long as you work hard, you’ll be on his good side.”
