Panousis, Magarity, Hill named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Vanessa Panousis and Samantha Hill along with redshirt sophomore Regan Magarity have been named to the 2017 All-ACC Women’s Basketball Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

Panousis a human development major, picks up her third consecutive nod to the All-ACC Academic team. This season, Panousis became the Virginia Tech all-time leader in 3-pointers made and currently has 255. She has tallied 10+ points in 10 games this season and two games with 20 or more. Panousis will finish her career in the Tech top-10 for career points and assists.

Magarity, a Communications - Multimedia and Journalism major, tallied 14 double-doubles this season and is top-3 in the ACC in the category on the year. She recorded seven consecutive double-doubles during the season, setting a program record. Magarity averaged 13.6 points and 9.8 rebounds this season and is ranked 22nd and 1st in the league, respectively. She her upped averages in league play to 13.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Magarity ranks 27th in NCAA in double-doubles, 33rd in rebounds per game and 39th in total rebounds.

Hill, a Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise major, earns her first nod to the academic team after a breakout senior season. She has tallied 19 games in double-digit scoring, including two with 20+ points, averaging 10.0 points per game. Hill led the team in scoring four times this season and posted a career-high 23 points at Miami on 9-of-17 from the field.

Duke redshirt junior guard Lexie Brown has been named the recipient of the ninth annual Kay Yow Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, headling the 2016-17 All-ACC Women’s Basketball Academic Team.

Florida State and Duke lead all schools each with four student-athletes named to the team. Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Miami, Louisville and Virginia each had three on the team.

ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. The award is based 60 percent on academic achievement and 40 percent on athletic accomplishment.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
