Hokies to face Clemson in ACC Tournament first round

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech will be seeded 12th and is set to face 13th-seeded Clemson on Wednesday, March 1 at 1 p.m. as the HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina plays host to the 40th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament this Wednesday through Sunday.

The Hokies enter the tournament 17-12 overall and 4-12 in the ACC. Tech will face Clemson in the opening round with the Tigers holding a 14-15 record overall and a 3-13 tally in the league. Virginia Tech defeated the Tigers, 78-69 earlier this season. Chanette Hicks and Samantha Hill led the Hokies with 16 points each. Regan Magarity added 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Sidney Cook tallied 13 points.

Wednesday’s other games will feature 15th-seeded Boston College against 10th-seed Georgia Tech (3:30 p.m.) and 14th-seed North Carolina versus 11th-seed Pitt (6:30 p.m.)

Notre Dame claimed its fourth consecutive regular-season title while Florida State finished second. With a win the Hokies would advance to face 5th-seeded Louisville at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 2.

The tournament features all 15 ACC teams and 14 games, beginning with three first-round matchups on Wednesday. Four second-round games are scheduled for Thursday, followed by the quarterfinals on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
