BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host in-state rival Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 19 in a 3 p.m. game at Cassell Coliseum. The contest will be televised on RSN or watch online via ACCNetworkExtra.

THE HOKIES (16-10, 3-10 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell to on the road to Pittsburgh 72-64 the last time out. Regan Magarity led the Hokies with 18 points, six rebounds. Chanette Hicks tallied 15 points, six rebounds and six assists. Samantha Hill chipped in 14 points, six rebounds and Sidney Cook added 10 points.

The Hokies closed out opening quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 16-5 lead after holding the Panthers to 1-of-13 from the field in the first. Tech maintained its lead in the second and was still up by 11 after three minutes, but Pitt cut it down to six. The Hokies went back on top by nine (26-17), but Pitt scored the final baskets of the half to cut it to a five-point game at the break. Panthers came out firing in the third, connecting on three consecutive long-range shots to go up 30-26. The Hokies tied it up at 30-30, but Pitt reclaimed the advantage as Tech trailed 40-35 heading into the final 10 minutes. Pitt went up by nine, but Tech answered with a 7-0 run to cut it to 44-42. The Hokies kept the momentum going, taking a 49-47 lead midway through the frame. Pitt responded with a 12-2 run to go up 59-51, before a Tech 3-point play cut it back down to five heading into the final minute. Tech kept scoring, but the Panthers connected on 13-of-14 from the line as the Hokies got no closer than four the rest of the way.

Hicks leads the Hokies, averaging 16.0 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 steals per game. Cook is posting 13.8 ppg and 8.3 rpg. Magarity is averaging 13.2 ppg and 9.5 rebounds per game while Hill is adding 10.0 ppg.

THE CAVALIERS (17-9, 6-7 ACC)
Virginia upset No. 4 Florida State, 60-51, on Thursday. Dominique Toussaint dropped in 14 points to lead the Cavaliers. J’Kyra Brown added 10 points and Lisa Jablonowski grabbed eight rebounds.

Virginia held the lead after the opening quarter, getting out on top of the Seminoles 16-11. The teams kept it close in the second, but FSU tied it up 26-26 at the break. Florida State came out firing in the third, outscoring UVA 20-15 to take the 46-41 lead heading into the final 10 minutes. The Seminoles pushed their lead to seven early in the frame, but the Cavaliers reclaimed the lead five minute later. A FSU 3-pointer with 2:59 to go was the last basket for the Noles as UVA closed out the game on a 10-0 run.

Lauren Moses leads the Cavaliers with 10.4 points per game while pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game. Toussaint is adding 10.0 ppg and handing out 2.6 apg. Breyana Mason is chipping in 9.8 ppg and 2.9 apg. Jocelyn Willoughby is tallying a team-high 6.3 rpg.

THE SERIES
The series against UVA marks one of the oldest in program history with the two teams meeting every season except 1991-92 since 1976. UVA holds the series record at 46-10, and won the earlier meeting this season in Charlottesville. Magarity led the Hokies with eight points and 10 rebounds. Willoughby had 18 points and five boards while Mason added 17 points, six boards for UVA.

Tech won the game the last time the two teams squared off in Blacksburg, 60-55 on Feb. 28, 2016. Hicks came off the bench to lead the Hokies with 19 points, eight rebounds. Former Tech player Taijah Campbell added 14 points. Mason had 10 points for UVA and Moses grabbed 12 boards.

This game is part of the Virginia 529 Commonwealth Clash in which the Hokies currently lead 5-3.5. The winner will receive half a point for their school.
