The Wolfpack opened the game with a run to go up 6-2 early, but the Hokies answered with a 14-4 run of their own, taking a 16-10 advantage off a 3-pointer from Panousis. NC State outscored Tech 9-4 down the stretch, but the Hokies led 20-19 at the end of the quarter. The Wolfpack opened the second frame with another run and jumped out to a 34-23 lead midway through, but another 3-pointer from Panousis cut it back down to a single-digit deficit. NC State responded, outscoring the Hokies 16-2 the rest of the way to go into the break on top 50-28. Tech and NC State kept the scoring close in the second half, with the Hokies outscoring the Wolfpack 24-14 in the fourth, but Tech was unable to dig out of the deficit as the Wolfpack secured the win.

Chanette Hicks leads the Hokies, averaging 16.0 points, 5.1 assists and 3.9 steals per game. Cook is posting 14.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Magarity is averaging 13.0 ppg and 9.7 rebounds per game while Samantha Hill is adding 9.8 ppg.

THE PANTHERS (12-13, 3-9 ACC)
Pittsburgh fell to No. 14/15 Duke, 62-48 on Sunday. Brandy Harvey-Carr led the Panthers with 12 points while Brenna Wise recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Jasmine Whitney dished out four assists and grabbed two steals.

Duke got out early on Pitt and took a 17-8 lead after the opening quarter. The scoring was closer in the second, but the Blue Devils took the 29-19 lead into the break. Coming out of the intermission, the Blue Devils again used a big scoring quarter to push their advantage, outscoring the Panthers 22-12 in the frame. Despite a fourth quarter push by the Panthers, Duke’s lead was to much to overcome as the Blue Devils secured the win.

Wise leads the Panthers on the season with 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Harvey-Carr is adding 10.0 points per game. Kalista Walters is chipping in 7.9 ppg while Aysia Bugg and Whitney have handed out 88 and 85 assists, respectively.

THE SERIES
This is the 12th meeting in the series with the Hokies holding a 7-4 lead. Pitt won last season’s meeting 59-48 in Blacksburg. Cook had 17 points for the Hokies while former Tech player Hannah Young chipped in 11. Wise tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers and Bugg tallied 10.

The last Hokies’ win over the Panthers came on March 5, 2015 in the second round of the ACC Tournament to send Tech to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history. Panousis dropped in 20 points to lead the Hokies while Cook had 10 points, 10 rebounds.
