BLACKSBURG - The 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to host local foe Radford on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m.

THE HOKIES (11-0)
Virginia Tech is off to a 11-0 start this season after defeating Auburn 92-87 on the road in overtime the last time out. Sidney Cook had 23 points in the game for the Hokies. Vanessa Panousis tallied 20 points and connected on five 3-pointers. Chanette Hicks added 18 points while handing out a school record tying 13 assists. Regan Magarity recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Hokies held a 40-37 advantage at the break, but the two teams traded baskets in the second half to keep it close. Tech led 77-73 with 20 seconds to play in the fourth quarter, but Auburn used a couple of Tech miscues to tie it up 77-77 and force the game into overtime. The Tigers scored the first basket in the extra period, but the Hokies answered with a 6-2 run to go on top 83-81 with 2:32 to go. Auburn cut it down to a one-point game, but Tech’s Hicks went to work, scoring five unanswered points while Cook added a pair of free throws in a 7-0 run. The Tigers hit another one from outside with 18 seconds remaining to pull within three, but Hicks drained a pair of free throws to secure the win.
Hicks leads the Hokies, averaging 16.9 points, 5.3 assists and 4.7 steals per game. Cook is posting 14.9 ppg and 9.1 rpg. Magarity is averaging 12.6 ppg and 8.9 rebounds per game while Panousis is tallying 10.5 ppg and Samantha Hill is adding 9.6 ppg.
THE HIGHLANDERS (7-2)
Radford fell to No. 19 Kentucky 59-36 the last time out. Janayla White had six points and 11 rebounds against the Wildcats. Destinee Walker and Brittany Allen added six points each.
The Highlanders also had a win over the ACC’s Wake Forest last week, defeating the Demon Deacons 68-60. White tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds. Walker added 14 points and Khiana Johnson came off the bench for 13. Radford led 27-25 at the break and used a big third quarter to pull away, outscoring the Deacs 26-19 in the frame to take the lead for good.
Walker leads the team with 13.9 ppg and is grabbing 7.8 rpg. Jayda Worthy is recording 9.7 ppg and White is tallying 9.5 ppg and a team-best 8.5 rpg and 2.1 apg.
THE SERIES
This marks the 35th meeting between the Hokies and Highlanders. Tech leads 25-9 all-time in the series and met last year in Blacksburg. The Hokies won the game 47-40 and were led by Magarity with 16 points. Hicks added seven points and seven boards. Worthy led the Highlanders with 11 points while Aisha Foy had 10 points and Lydia Rivers grabbed 12 rebounds.
Up Next: Virginia Tech will take the holiday break before returning to the court on Dec. 30 to host Delaware State at 7 p.m.
